Acoustic sigils are sound-based symbols — musical scores mapped to magical intent — developed by Greg Turner and covered in my Magical Identity. Instead of a drawn glyph, the sigil lives in the sound itself.
What they are
A traditional sigil is a drawn symbol holding an intent. An acoustic sigil does the same work, but the carrier is sound — a short musical phrase or score composed around a magical key. Play the sigil, meditate on it, let it carry the intent into the state you want to shift.
My coverage in Magical Identity points back to Greg Turner's work — the original article about mapping musical scores to musical keys for sigil creation.

How it works
Sound changes state. Anyone who has put on a specific piece of music to work, drive, or grieve already knows this. Acoustic sigils take the pattern deliberate: compose a short piece in a specific key, with a specific rhythm, tied to a specific intent, and play it when you want that intent active.
The musical key is doing the work a color or letter might do in a drawn sigil — it is the carrier frequency for the intent.
#
How to make one
- Name the intent clearly.
- Pick a musical key that feels aligned with the intent. Minor keys for introspection or grief work, major for expansion, specific modes for specific qualities.
- Compose or record a short phrase — 15 to 90 seconds is a good range.
- Listen to it daily for the window you want the intent active. Do not overplay.
- When the working is complete, do not listen to the piece again for that intent.

Working notes
Acoustic sigils require more tolerance for non-visual magic than drawn sigils. If you think in sound — musicians, sound engineers, anyone who uses music to navigate state — this is likely a stronger sigil modality than pen-and-paper for you.
The focus of that brilliant article was on how musical scores could be used to create sound sigils that could be mapped to musical keys.

Acoustic sigils sit alongside drawn sigils, alphabet-of-desire workings, and the broader sigil tradition I develop across Magical Identity and related titles.
