My work with Planetary Pentacles
I recently acquired two planetary pentacles, The Second Pentacle of Jupiter and The Second Pentacle of Mercury from Alison Chicosky, of Practical Occult. I acquired them because I was curious about how I could apply them to my own ongoing work with planetary magic, as well as for other purposes and so far I’ve been very pleased with the pentacles. I want to share here how I’ve applied them to my magical work, but I also recommend and vouch for Alison’s work.
When I first got these pentacles, I spent a few days just working with them. I kept them on my person during the day and put them under my pillow at night. I had vivid dreams the first couple nights, where the spirits of the pentacles came and instructed me in the basics of how to activate and work with them. During the day I’d touch them and soak in the experience, not just of the metal, but also of the planetary powers the pentacles represent.
The Second Pentacle of Mercury connects you with the planetary spirits of Mercury. It has a feeling of quickness to it, and a quirky eccentric appeal that provides odd insights and unusual perspectives, perfect for someone like me, but it also helps with communication and information gathering.
The Second Pentacle of Jupiter connects you with the planetary spirits of Jupiter. It has a feeling of expansion to it, a sense of opportunity and potential that can be explored and uncovered, if you’re willing to do the work. It’s helped me with some wealth workings and other related matters.
So how have I applied these pentacles to my own workings?
Frequency Manipulation
I’ve treated each of these pendants as dials, that I can use to either increase or decrease the amount of planetary essence being applied to a situation. The dial function also serves as a modifier, in the sense that it applies the planetary power in a way that modifies the situation through the particular lens that the pentacle channels.
Example: I’ve used the pentacle of Mercury to dial down the hostility of customers at my work, coming in hot because of the problem they’re dealing with. In this situation, Mercury has served to cushion and gentle the customer, making them cool down quick so we can focus on solving the problem. Mercury, in this context, has also helped stimulate unconventional perspectives for finding solutions to the problems being dealt with.
Example: I’ve used the pentacle of Jupiter to dial up interest in the ads I’m running on Amazon, basically acting as attractor to those ads. Since applying the pentacle for that purpose, I’ve noticed more impressions and clicks, which is useful for increasing sales. I’ve also used Jupiter to enhance an existing wealth magic working I’m using to get more leads at work.
When I use the pentacles as dials, I treat the holes as the dial indicator (see picture) below. Left is used to lower the frequency, while right is used to raise the frequency. I must add that sometimes lower frequencies are better than higher ones, so if you take my approach you’ll have to pay close attention to your desired result and think of the frequency manipulation in terms of that result. For instance, I might lower the Jupiter frequency if I’m doing a working where I don’t want expansion. By lowering the frequency I can actually mitigate or even negate a planetary influence I don’t want at the time. You can apply this approach to any magical working you’re doing where you want to either modify the planetary influences you’re working OR use them to modify a magical working you’re already doing.

I’ve also used each of these pentacles as divinatory tools, around their specific realm of influence. For instance, I posed a question to the Mercury pentacle and then slept with it under my head. That night I had a vivid dream where I got the answer I needed, which allowed me to make a crucial decision around some internal work I’m currently doing. That direction was very helpful and I imagine I could do something similar with the Jupiter pentacle.
The Pentacles and the Sphere of Art
I’ve also applied these two pentacles to the planetary influences I’m workings with in the Sphere of Art, using them to further enhance and refine the alchemical essences that are part of the working. I place the pentacle beneath the respective alchemical essence it represents and what happens is that both the alchemical essence and the pentacle charge and enhance and refine each other further. It’s basically a symbiotic exchange I’ve created and I can then apply to any working I’m doing in the Sphere, but also outside of it. I plan to get other pentacles and do the same thing with them as well, but that’s down the line.
Conclusion
For the moment what I’ve shared above is what I’ve done with the pentacles. but I know I’ll continue experimenting with them, both in conjunction with other work I’m doing and in working with them as singular entities in their own right. One of the challenges that I notice some magicians have is committing to daily spiritual work. I get it, especially if that daily work doesn’t really do anything for you and isn’t spiritually fulfilling. The choice to design your own daily work allows you to take the helm and create something that has meaning to you. It may be highly personalized and it may draw on elements of previous daily practices that you’ve done, but it may also speak to you in a way that nothing else does.

Why I prefer experiences over models with magical work
I was recently asked by a reader what I thought about the word energy. He noted that I’ve used it sometimes and I have used it. However, I find the word energy to be terribly imprecise and I have become more and more reluctant to use it, because I don’t feel that it really captures the experience of what I’m trying to share. If anything what it does is create distance from the experience. I mentioned this to my reader and went on to share a statement I’ve been using lately: Challenge what you know by discovering what you can learn. I say this statement a fair amount and there’s a reason I make that statement. It’s because I favor experience over conceptualization, experiential learning over models that abstract and distance us from the experience.
I want to share with you why I don’t care for the models of magic approach that some people use to try and categorize magic, and why instead I prefer an experiential approach to magic. The problem with the models of magic is that they’re an attempt to categorize magic and fit it into a neat little box that says this is what magic is. But I’ve found you can’t easily fit magic into a box and when you try to what ends up happening is that you lose something essential to magic.

How I learn inner alchemical techniques
Right now, I’m learning Dao Yin exercises, which are exercises you can do to get rid of negative chi, while also cultivating positive chi. Whenever I learn a new technique, I take my time and learn them step by step, instead of trying to do the entire technique at once. I also make sure that I’ve learned all the preceding techniques and have a thorough understanding of how they work, before learning a new one, because learning the new technique necessarily builds off the preceding techniques.
A huge part of learning a technique is also paying attention to the experience. In fact, I’d argue that’s the most important aspect of learning something, because the experience will tell you a lot about what you are doing and may indicate if you are doing it right or if there is something that doesn’t fit.
Elemental Balancing Ritual Creativity Month 11
8-24-2019 - I switched over to Venus/Netzach/Auriel the other day and its been interesting to note the energetic shift. I feel a bit more laid back and contemplative since shifting over, but I also still feel driven to write. In one sense, I am experiencing creativity in different phases and the Venus phase is distinct because it doesn’t feel as fast as Mercury, but it does feel a bit more grounded.
With the release of my first fiction book, I think its taken on the form of contemplating why I love what I’m doing, as well as what I’m willing to do to pursue that love. It seems appropriate to Auriel that I’m doing this because I’m starting my fiction writing career and it will take some work that I haven’t had to do in a long time as a non-fic writer.

Statements and questions as magical tools
I was watching a video recently where the person being interviewed made a rather interesting statement. He claimed that statements limit and/or close off probabilities, while questions expand probabilities. I thought about it and found myself agreeing that if you look at how language is used from a probability angle, then yes language can be used to either limit or expand probabilities. Let’s consider that angle in further detail.
A statement is typically used to declare an opinion or a fact. From a probability perspective, a statement would seem to typically limit the probabilities available because a statement is describing and defining what is being stated. What we need to understand about statements is that in doing all of that, what’s really happening is a defining on the basis of the agenda of the person making the statement. A statement is really an attempt to describe what something ought to be. And that is pretty accurate in terms of limiting the probabilities through language, because if we’re describing and defining what something ought to be, we’re also trying to rule out what it shouldn’t be.

2 examples of wealth magic workings using art magic
A couple months ago I was struck by inspiration to create a magnet metal ball sculpture and when I created it, I turned it into a prosperity magic working for the purposes of helping me get more leads at my work. when I created it, I decided to use both magnetism and gravity to not only create the sculpture, but also become magical principles that could help me bring more prosperity into my life. In my case I decided to use it to help me get more leads at work.
I’m expected to get so many leads in order to meet a metric for my job performance, but if I exceed that metric I have the opportunity to also get points through the rewards program the company has. Additionally If I get so many leads per week, I also get spins at a wheel, which provides further opportunities to get reward points. Those points can be exchanged for things I want such as gift cards or items. For example I’ve used the points to get a new computer monitor and I’ve also used them for gift cards.

Elemental Balancing Ritual Creativity Month 10
7-22-2019 Today I shifted over to Hod/Air/Mercury/Raphael and its and interesting shift…a sharp, clear shift that feels like a papercut, especially when paired with creativity. Actually I’m finding this entire meta process to be intriguing because I’m bundling these correspondences together with creativity and of course the creative insights I’m getting and the paths that are opening are very helpful.
Today, for example, it was getting further clarity on how to launch my first fiction book and what can be done to help that fiction book stand out, while also dong some further writing on my next fiction book. In any case I’m just letting myself get carried into the air and the associations with it.
Re-creating the world through magical workings
I’m re-reading Music Power Harmony by R.J. Stewart and one of the points he makes in the book is that a magical working is essentially about re-creating the world. It’s a profound observation, because what it recognizes is that a magical working is designed to take us out of the everyday world and then provide us a way to re-create that world with the desired result we want to manifest.
Of course there’s more to it than just that…
